Adult Tests For ADHD -
Effective ADHD Treatment & Diagnosis
Diagnosis of ADHD can only be achieved through a full assessment, but adults showing typical symptoms may benefit from taking our ADHD test, based on an internationally respected screening tool for this mental health disorder.
ADHD is a common disorder occurring in 2.5% of adults. People who are affected typically show high levels of symptoms relating to poor concentration, disorganisation, impulsivity, hyperactivity and mood instability.
Take a screening test for ADHD
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder affects and occurs in both males and females, across all ages and all levels of social status, intelligence and capability. Many people question their behaviour or can't understand why they respond in certain ways to life challenges. Our online screening test for ADHD is not diagnostic but may give you some idea as to whether ADHD is a disorder that you should consider getting a full, professional assessment for.
The test will only take a few minutes and will help adults consider the benefits of progressing to a full ADHD assessment.

ADHD Test and Full Assessment - what are the typical symptoms of ADHD in adults ?
ADHD presents in many different ways. It is characterized by three main groups of behaviour traits and a range of typical additional behaviours within these. Not all of these need to be present in any one person, however, as ADHD affects people in a wide variety of ways and symptoms can be confused with other disorders, correct ADHD diagnosis is often missed.
A test for ADHD with a full assessment will identify symptoms in these 3 behaviour groups:
Testing for ADHD behaviour group 1 – Attention Deficit
Attention Deficit is an inability to focus and be organised. Being disorganised often leads to underachievement which will compromise home life, social life, working life or educational performance. Typical attention deficit symptoms include:
- Making careless mistakes and not giving close attention to detail
- Problems with remaining focus and sustaining attention
- Difficulty listening and being distracted when being spoken to directly
- Often do not complete tasks because of boredom and lack of focus
- Messy and disorganised work often leading to missing deadlines
- Poor time management and often leave tasks to the last minute
- Regularly lose personal items
Testing for ADHD behaviour group 2 – Hyperactivity-impulsivity
Adults showing symptoms of ADHD are often characterized by mental restlessness rather than more obvious physical hyperactivity. A busy restless mind with uncontrollable, active thought processes is often experienced and sometimes with signs of fidgeting. Excessive spending, sensation seeking and being impatient are common indicators of ADHD in adults. Hyperactivity-impulsivity symptoms include:
- Fidgeting or tapping with hands or feet
- Moving in the seat instead of sitting still
- Sitting for long periods can be difficult, and often leaving the seat in situations when remaining seated is required or expected.
- Speak or act before thinking things through.
- Often unable to engage in activities quietly and becoming a noisy disruption to others.
- Find it hard to switch off and relax, often feeling like ‘always on the go’
- Talk excessively often without giving others a chance to speak
- Blurt out an answer before a question has been completed.
- Interrupt or intrude on others, often not letting them have their turn
Testing for ADHD behaviour group 3 – Mood Instability
Although mood instability is not an official, guideline based indicator of ADHD, it is considered as a useful additional measure when diagnosing the condition and is frequently seen in ADHD patient behaviour.
Mood instability can often be as a result of frustration or over-reaction created by attention deficit, impulsivity or hyperactivity e.g. ADHD patients are often unduly angered because they have forgotten something or because another person is being too slow in an action. Mood instability symptoms include:
- Often easily irritated or angered
- Can be moody even in situations with close friends, family and colleagues
- Often cause other people to feel like they treading on egg-shells
- Moods swings are rapid or dramatic, often from feeling happy to sad many times per day
- Often sensitive to rejection or perceived rejection by others
The impact of ADHD in adults
ADHD can severely affect an individual’s education, working life, home life, relationships and social life. The impact of ADHD can become more widespread and disruptive in adulthood as a persons life becomes more complicated.
